Union of Bulgarian Artists / Exhibitions / ArchiveExhibition of Lyuben Zidarov
Luben Zidarov is one of the pioneers of Bulgarian comics. After the pages in "Wonderful World" and "Illustrated reading" painted in 1941-1943 and children comics in the postwar "Septemvriiche" he began the graphic novel "Ben Hur", which unfortunately he never ends. So the next comic book he's working on took him 60 years. This is the "Treasure Island", the novel by Robert Louis Stevenson.
As in the illustrations from "Andersen's fairy tales" and several other classic books that he draw on the decades between 1950-1990, Zidarov creates many variations of the comics. Over the years his style changed. He painted, repainted, 90 years old, making new shifts, collages and additions to version for the first exhibition of Bulgarian comic book in 2013.
Luben Zidarov is the first winner of Alexander Denkov’s award. He was honored for a body of work and the enormous merit, which is the promotion and strengthening of the ninth art in Bulgaria.
